Four Unbelievable Road Legal Cars (Videos Included)

So you think you've got a cool car - well trust me, it's nothing compared to these crazy creations. Check out this collection of cars that are so insane you won't believe that they are actually road legal.

Terrafugia Transition

The Terrafugia Transition is refered to by its makers as a roadable aircraft. To you and me that basically makes it a flying car! Whilst this remarkable vehicle has been cleared for use as an aircraft for over 12 months the Transition officially announced road legal in the US by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Powered by a Rotax 912S piston engine, the Terrafugia Transition is largely carbon fibre and has an estimated flight range of 787 km and a cruising speed of 107 mph.

The Transition can reach speeds of up to 65 miles per hour on the road and, when being driven as a car, power is sent to the rear wheels. At the push of a button, the wings unfold and power is diverted to pusher propeller at the rear of the vehicle. Designed to fit in a standard domestic garage the Terrafugia Transition could be yours for just $200,000 roughly the same price as a Ferrari.

Street Legal Bumper Cars

Everyone loves bumper cars and I don't think there's a kid alive who hasn't dreamed of bursting out of the fair ground and driving off down the street in one. Well thanks to California-based builder Tom Wright, that dream is now a reality. After rescuing a set of original bumper cars from the Long Beach Pike amusement park, Wright converted the fairground favourites into road legal vehicles by adding four wheels and fitting 750cc motorcycle engines and tweaking them to pass vehicle legislation.

Rumours have it that a couple of the bumper car fleet have been tuned to reach speeds of 160mph for anyone who has the balls to actually try. So far Wright has built eight of the crazy cars but as yet has no plans on selling any of them. When he does, I'm first on the list!

Bugatti Veyron Super Sport

Many people may have heard of the the Veyron, a mid-engined grand touring car by Volkswagen's Bugatti Automobiles but few have heard of the limited edition Bugatti Veyron Super Sport. This special version of the Veyron saw the super car get an improved aerodynamics kit, 1,200 horsepower 1,500 newton metres torque engine upgrade giving the supercar a Guinness Book of World Record Breaking top speeds of 267.856 mph top speed.

This insane supercar is priced at a whopping £1.7m and only 30 will ever be produced. All thirty versions however will have their top speed electronically restricted to 258 mph in order to protect the cars tyres from disintegrating.

Gibbs Aquada

Developed in the UK and the USA the Gibbs Aquada is road legal amphibious car. This high speed sports convertible can be driven into the water from the beach or slipway and, once afloat, a press of a button transforms the vehicle into a speedboat. The car's wheels automatically rise and the whole process takes less than 12 seconds. The Aquada is capable of 26 knots on the water, fast enough to give many high performance speedboats a run for their money, and 100 mph on the road.

In 2004 the Gibbs Aquada was used to set a new world record for crossing the English Channel in an amphibious vehicle by Sir Richard Branson. The English business magnate beat the previous record of 6 hours, which had stood since the 1960s, by a massive 4 hours 20 minutes. If you'd like your very own Aquada, be prepared to shell out a whopping £150,000.
