'Music is a moral law. It gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and charm and gaiety to life and to everything' – Plato. Through the course of time, music has always believed to be the only art, literally appreciated by everyone. We all love listening to music! It helps us relax; it improves our self-acceptance and shows us how to enjoy life. Music is able to give us a shelter to hide and freedom to dream. This is the universal language of mankind, a fascinating mixture of inspiration, energy and magic. And the best part is that it gives us liberty to choose among a variety of genres. So here are five of the most popular music genres, which have touched millions of people during the years.
R&B Music
Rhythm & Blues is a music genre, which first appeared in America, in the late 1930s. The first part of its name is for the music and its typical dependence upon four-beat measures. 'Blues', on the other hand, comes from the typical for this genre sad lyrics and melodies. The term was first created as an alternative designation of the so-called 'race music'. This beautiful music genre appeared in times, when the American, white pop music was stuck in a creative crisis. In all its variations, such as Sophisticated Blues, Jump Blues etc., R&B music broke the misconception that black music was for black people only. If we had to describe this genre in one, single word, it would definitely be 'emotions'. Today the most popular R&B singers are Alicia Keys, Usher, Mary J Blide, Beyonce etc.
Pop Music
The phrase 'pop song' first appeared in 1926 as a description of a piece of art 'having a popular appeal'. A couple of decades later, in the 1950s, people started to use the term 'Pop music', again characterizing it only as an abbreviation of the popular music during that time. However, even if 'Pop music' has became the international term of widely commercial music (which in fact can include any other style), it managed to distinguish from the big ocean of music genres. Today, Pop music as we know it, is electric and energetic, including rock, Latin, dance and even country elements. Its main purpose is to encourage dancing and make us hum the latest summer hit.

Jazz Music
Even though we are all able to recognize a typical Jazz song, this music genre is extremely difficult to define. It first appeared at the beginning of the 20th century and generally it is a combination of harmony and form elements and Africian-based music. What is interesting about this music genre is that improvisation is considered to be one of its main elements. This relaxing music has been changed, improved and influenced during the years. The most common music instruments are saxophone and piano, which are the heart of its magic.
Techno Music
