You have to love movies that are either about the future or the past and have some model of the current car configured in to the script. Whether they use them as time machines or weapons, the cars themselves are often the centerpiece of the scene and end up getting more conversation and the movie itself. Here are several examples that come to mind.
I don't think you can start any list off without including the 1981 DeLorean DMC 12 from back to the future. This movie catapulted that car into fame as it served as a time machine for Doc. I think half of the cars that were sold were actually used in this movie. You'd be hard-pressed to find the DeLorean in working condition, but you can never forget it as it was far and away one of the stars of this movie.
One of the funnier automobiles to steal some scenes as it was out of place in the timeline of click was Wayne's World. The movie was set in nearly 90s and had his pathetic 1977 AMC Pacer as the main mode of transportation for Wayne and Garth. How can you ever forget that pale blue color that was highlighted by the flames shooting off of the front tire wells.
When you think futuristic movies and cars that made them, how can you not include the 1973 Ford Falcon XP GT from mad Max. This is one of the baddest police cars to ever hit the streets with none other than mad Max himself behind the wheel. Mel Gibson drove his car there is no tomorrow and pushed it to its limits every time he sat behind the wheel. This film was probably responsible for a bunch of crazy teenagers running out and buying a GT and tearing up the highway.
If you want to talk about taking a trip down memory lane, how you forget the bright yellow 1932 Ford Deuce Coupe from American graffiti. The movie was made in 1973 and somehow this car fit right into place. This car was probably the sexiest character in the movie!
You cannot have any list about famous cars from different time periods without thinking about putting the 1958 Plymouth Fury from Christine in there. This car had a mind of its own and turned the world of car lovers upside down as a claim that the car itself was actually a Belvedere. If Christine says she was a Fury, she was a Fury because I am not going to be the one to face her wrath when she is pissed off.
Vin Diesel has been behind the wheel in more than his fair share of hot rods. I can't imagine that he enjoyed anything more than driving around in the 1967 Pontiac GTO from xXx. Featuring some absolutely incredible Bond like modifications, there is no way there wasn't a tear in his eye on the last day of filming. Let's also not forget the 1970 Dodge charger that he drove around in The Fast and the Furious. Two movies, and two of the most incredible cars to ever be seen on film. These were muscle cars with enhancements that any motorhead would've killed for.
