#MeToo Campaign Not Slowing Down Anytime Soon, But Now What?

After the recent Harvey Weinstein sexual allegations have come to light, the floodgates have opened with celebrities using the hashtag #MeToo creating a social-media viral sensation. Many of us have seen and are shocked to hear of female family members, friends and co-workers coming forward publicly on-line with personal sexual abuse and harassment stories. Karney believes, "If men stand with us too, we can stop the sexual assault of women."

"An NBC movie, 'Shattered Trust: The Shari Karney Story' starring Melissa Gilbert, was written based on the abuse that happened when I was a child. People in my inner circle who never confided in me are using social media now to find their voice but we can't do it alone," said Shari Karney, attorney and legal pundit.

Shari Karney led the charge of changing the laws in California in 1991 and didn't stop there. Karney worked with 40 other states so that survivors across the nation now have legal rights as well. Karney successfully lobbied and testified in Washington D.C. for a Children's Bill of Rights.

"Now what? Men stand with us too! If you are sickened and shocked at what you are reading and hearing about through the #MeToo campaign, be the voice of honor and reason. You can be the ones to hold bosses, co-workers, family members, coaches and churches' feet to the fire. Men listen to other men. Please, be the good man you are and stand with us #MenWithYouToo," said Shari Karney. 

"Basic civil rights laws must be enacted to hold perpetrators accountable and give victims justice. We need to remove statutes of limitations for criminal and civil actions so survivors of sexual violence can have their day in court," said Karney.

We Should Remember HG Wells For His Social Predictions, Not Just His Scientific Ones

No writer is more renowned for his ability to foresee the future than HG Wells. His writing can be seen to have predicted the aeroplane, the tank, space travel, the atomic bomb, satellite television and the worldwide web. His fantastic fiction imagined time travel, alien invasion, flights to the moon and human beings with the powers of gods.

This is what he is generally remembered for today, 150 years after his birth. Yet for all these successes, the futuristic prophecy on which Wells’s heart was most set – the establishment of a world state – remains unfulfilled. He envisioned a Utopian government which would ensure that every individual would be as well educated as possible (especially in science), have work which would satisfy them, and the freedom to enjoy their private life.

His interests in society and technology were closely entwined. Wells’s political vision was closely associated with the fantastic transport technologies that Wells is famous for: from the time machine to the Martian tripods to the moving walkways and aircraft in When the Sleeper Wakes. In Anticipations (1900), Wells prophesied the “abolition of distance” by real-life technologies such as the railway. He stressed that since the inhabitants of different nations could now travel towards each other more quickly and easily, it was all the more important for them to do so peacefully rather than belligerently.

'Exit Log'

Holy 75th Anniversary, Batman! Let's Watch The 1949 "Batman And Robin" Movie!

Yep, the Cape Crusader has been around for 75 years already... time flies when one's having fun fighting crime, doesn't it?

To celebrate this important milestone in the DC's superheroes universe, we will post some videos with Batman in them during the next few weeks... and we've started the ball rolling with a mega post with 15 videos in it. 15 videos, because that's the number of episodes the 1949 "Batman and Robin" movie (the one with Robert Lowery and Johnny Duncan) has, and there is one episode per video. Like in the "good old days" when some of the movies were serials, you know... 

A quite lengthy trip to memory lane that was made possible thanks to our faithful old TARDIS... (Oh, okay, it's from Dailymotion.com, really, but it's still a great find and, hopefully, you will enjoy it as much as we did.)

'Batman and Robin' - 1949

Storyline:

Antisocial Prof. Hammil's Remote Control device, which enables the user to take over any motor vehicle within 50 miles (!), is stolen by The Wizard, black-hooded mastermind, and his gang. Batman and Robin (who drive about in a standard convertible) must prevent the Wizard from obtaining diamonds, needed as fuel for the device, and rescue magazine photographer Vicki Vale from periodic perils. Where is the Wizard's base, reached only by remote controlled submarine? Which of several suspicious characters hides beneath the Wizard's hood? Written by Rod Crawford

Trivia:

Batman drives a 1949 Mercury convertible throughout, but, in one instance, when the need arises, Robin shows up in a 1949 Mercury four-door sedan, which is apparently his own; meanwhile, the Wizard drives a 1949 Mercury two-door sedan; Winslow Harrison drives a 1949 four-door Lincoln sedan; and the cops use a number of 1949 Fords, all of them innovatingly styled products of the Ford Motor Company, who must have had the only new car dealership in Gotham City. The Wizard's henchmen make a lot of use out of a 1941 Lincoln 8 passenger sedan, while Vicki Vale must make the best of it with a 1939 Plymouth convertible. Not The Chosen One
With Buffy Anne Summers having been, up to the last
season, the chosen one, the possibility for any potential
slayer to become the world's saviour and kick lots of
demonic and vampiric backsides was very remote to say
the least...

Being number eleven on the list, Fluffy Winters, the slaying
English rose, kind of knew somehow that her big day would
never happen.

Fortunately, not all demons and vampires were stupid
enough to stay in the vicinity of Sunnydale and, even if
by doing so they missed the chance to appear briefly on
the popular TV show or even bed the former cheerleader,
some of them chose to play it safe by keeping as far away
from it as possible.

Well, they thought it would be safer anyway...

Welcome To Sunningdale
Sunningdale is a town situated in the South of England,
and Fluffy is that town's protector against the forces of evil.

Like the other slayer, she has her own Watcher,
Ted Farmer - an American who can't join the Watchers'
Council because of his nationality, as well as her own
Scoobies: her best friends Alex Harrison - Fluffy's personal
wooden stakes handler, and Ash Johannesburg - the first
ever person in Sunningdale to have been saved by Fluffy and
a wannabe witch.

Together, they are a force to be reckoned with...
The local demons and vampires quickly discovered
that fact the hard way.

Not The TV Show
Those vampires and demons that haven't met Fluffy
and her team yet and are not convinced by their peers'
testimonies should watch the short movie conveniently
titled 'Fluffy The English Vampire Slayer' and eventually
learn from it...

Okay, the vampires' make up is closer to the Buffy
movie itself than the BTVS TV show but, it's still
somehow a must for all the Buffy fans 'out there'.

That what it is primarily: a fan film made in homage
to the Slayer as well as being for its makers a fun way
of giving something back to the Buffy universe... and it
works in my book.
