Famous Bodyguards Everyone Should Know Of

by

If you’ve hung out around those bars in Aspen with the lights and music, you know the ones I’m talking about, you’ve probably seen a few celebrities. Which means you’ve probably seen a few bodyguards even if you didn’t realize it. They were the ones wearing nothing but black, lurking in the background, pretty easy to miss, if they weren’t all literally seven feet tall. For one reason or another, some celebrities, billionaires, and artists (or any combination of the above) like a little extra muscle when they go out in public. Let’s take a look at some of the not-so-gentle giants of the personal security industry.

The Most High Tech Heroes On Our Screens

by

In recent times, geek chic has taken the world somewhat by storm. It's no longer something to be ashamed of if you're handy with a computer and wear specs, it's something to be proud of and to show off. Nowhere is this more apparent than on the silver screen, or on the smaller screen in our living rooms, where geeks are regularly saving the day using their brains and technology rather than pure brawn.

Recently a number of high profile high tech heroes have risen to the forefront of pop culture. Here we will look at a few of the best, and what they say about the modern nerd...

One Tycoon, a Whale Massacre and Dog Food

by
One Icelandic man is about to start a hunt to harpoon fin whales, then chop them into pieces and ship their meat to Japan for dog food! The best way to stop this massacre is to shame the Dutch Prime Minister, who allows the traffic of whale meat through Rotterdam, to refuse this bloody cargo -- if the whalers can’t sell the meat, we can stop the hunt before it starts.

A man cave is a sanctuary that a man sets up so that he can do whatever his manly desires lead him to do, without offending or bothering the women in his life. Traditionally, man caves have been set up in basements, garages, and offices.

These are indoor places, but the man cave can also be set up outside. For the man who loves the great outdoors, or just being outside instead of a stuffy confined space, he should set up an outdoor man cave. With enough time and effort, the outdoor man cave can become the DIY’s man dream location.

Glastonbury kicks off next month, with an amazing, eclectic line-up of bands as always. This year’s event will see The Rolling Stones performing at Worthy Farm for the first time ever, alongside other British acts including Arctic Monkeys, Mumford and Sons and Primal Scream.

We have waited years to see Mick Jagger strut his stuff on the pyramid stage, hopefully it will be one of those Glasto performances to remember; with so many highlights from years gone by, we highlight some of the most memorable performances of all time:

How Blood Diamonds Work [Infographic]

The term "blood diamond" used in reference to diamonds mined informally and frequently under hazardous or coercive conditions in conflict zones, notably those located in sub-Sarahan Africa.

Various warlords, armed rebel groups, and unscrupulous government or military officials in countries such as Sierra Leone, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Angola exploited the chaos of ongoing civil war, widespread poverty, and rampant corruption to enrich themselves and fund their military efforts. These illicit blood diamonds were commonly used as an unofficial currency to purchase arms and munitions from abroad due to the high demand for diamonds on the international market.

In most cases, civilians were effectively enslaved and forced to work under brutal conditions to collect the diamonds, which were then sold to unscrupulous foreign dealers. Eventually, as a result of public outrage in many of the Western countries were these blood diamonds were ultimately sold, more stringent business standards were adopted by the diamond industry to certify that blood diamonds from conflict zones were not purchased or sold by their dealers.

Beyond Modified Foods: Modified Laws And The Monsanto Protections Act

by

Many of the genetically modified foods will be safe, I’m sure. Will most of them be safe? Nobody knows. –Jeremy Rifkin
Here is some food for thought (pun intended). What do you call a business that has a monopoly on an industry, has been known to do great environmental damage, is able to nearly write their own laws, the product they offer is outlawed in numerous countries, they’ve been known to use child labor, many people have committed suicide as a result of being indebted to them, have many known cases of false advertising, and one which has enough lobbyists and allies in the American government to not only do all of this unimpeded, but is seemingly supported by it?

Given up? You call that business Monsanto. And Monsanto is a very big business.
